29 September 2011 Episode 1

Macs (whose hair is now as long as it was before he shaved it off) is looking after Britt's young children.  They seem to be coping with their mother being in hospital remarkably well, but that is probably because Sion is shielding them from the full seriousness of it.

Dai phones his younger brother Dick, and tells him that he and Diane are going through some financial hardship.  It's not clear if he realises Diane has sold her wedding ring to help ease their difficulties.  Dai is in a good mood when he gets off the phone though, and tells Diane that he has been offered three months' work in Cork.  Diane, surprisingly, is pleased, although she is a little taken aback when Dai reveals that Dick wants him in Ireland in two days' time.

Sioned is talking to the Police about her movements on the evening of the fire, she was in with Marian, watching a film.  Listening to this is Ffion, who orders a coffee to go and gets out of there as quickly as she can.  She almost runs straight into Macs and the children - a fact not lost on the Police detective.

Macs and Sioned talk a little awkwardly, Catrin shows her the baby tooth that just fell out.  Sioned volunteers to help Macs look after the children, as he is running out of ideas to keep them entertained.  Sioned goes into her shop, and whilst she's gone, Eifion chats with Macs, and passes on his condolences for Brandon's passing (they aren't technically related since Sion and Britt aren't married, but there is nevertheless a connection there).  Sioned returns with a frisbee and a water pistol.

Eileen gives Norman a lemon posset to try out, it's something she is thinking of teaching in her cookery evening class.  He's very impressed.  She's nervous though, saying that being able to cook is one thing, teaching it to others is something else.  But Norman is full of encouragement.

Diane and Dai realise that starting in Cork in two days time will mean that Dai will miss Brandon's funeral.  He isn't happy at this prospect but he needs the work, and doesn't want to find that all the best jobs have been taken by the time he arrives.

Macs and Sioned return from the park with the children, and it's obvious they've enjoyed looking after them. Macs asks Sioned if she will come to the hospital with him to visit Britt.  She agrees readily.  Ffion appears, and gives Macs her condolences, but she's watching the Police in the street talking to people, and it's clear she's nervous, practically running away when they come near.  Macs sees this and it strikes him as odd.  All is quickly revealed though, when Ffion arrives at the Police station, finds the detective, and says that she has a confession to make -- she started the fire.

Eileen is unloading her equipment at the school, Mark comes to help.  They chat about her experiences of online dating, and he reveals that he joined an online dating site some years ago but didn't get a single hit.  He jokes that he said he was tall, dark and handsome - not exactly an accurate description, since he's pale and ginger.  Eileen helps him to look on the bright side, as he's a governor, and a guardian to Ricky.

Ffion is being interviewed.  she admits that she wanted revenge on Garry Monk.  She says that they had a messy break-up some time ago, that she tried to rekindle it last week, without success, and that she has started drinking again.  She blames him for ruining her life, and says she had nothing to lose.  The detective disagrees, and says that her actions killed one person, another is in a coma, whilst her intended target is alive and well walking around, and she is facing a substantial prison sentence.

Ffion says that the argument in Y Deri, when Garry humiliated her, was the catalyst, there was no careful planning to the incident, it just happened very quickly.  He relates that Garry showed people the bottles in her bag, about how she once attempted suicide, and that now everybody knows, she feels humiliated and angry.

When she is asked how she started the fire, she says it was with petrol, and with a lighter.  This doesn't seem to add up, and she seems vague on details - as if her story is starting to unravel.  She can't account for purchasing the lighter, because by the time the argument took place, the shop was already closed.  She doesn't smoke so she wouldn't have already had the lighter - unless she had planned the fire at least the day before, pointing towards a premeditated crime.  The detective says that the reason she is light on details is that she was drunk, and implies that she was too drunk to have done it.  The interview is over.

At the hospital, Macs is talking to Britt, who is still in a coma.  Sioned is with him.  He talks about his day with the children, and says that Britt is needed back at home, to keep everybody in check, they are lost without her.  Outside the room, Macs admits he doesn't think talking to her is doing any good.  Sioned says it can't do any harm, and that she will remain supportive of him - including next week, when his course case for ABH is heard.  She volunteers to take his suit to the dry cleaners.

Mark helps Eileen load her car back up again, she is in good spirits after a good lesson, and they agree to meet for a drink later in Y Deri.

As Ffion is walking outside the station, she finds a receipt in her pocket for fuel.  She shows the detective the receipt, and realises that she must have been miles away when the fire started, she couldn't have been responsible, so she's in the clear.  Except, says the detective, for drink driving and wasting Police time!

So if Ffion didn't start the fire, who did?

Eifion and Cadno are in Y Deri, and Eifion keeps nearly letting the secret out that Cadno is pregnant.  He's obviously really excited, and that's sweet.  He wants to tell everyone, but she wants to wait until she has her first scan next week.  Things are interrupted when Ffion comes into Y Deri, tells everyone that she confessed to starting the fire because she was too drunk to remember otherwise.  She storms out.

As Eileen and Mark are talking, Norman comes in.  Eileen gives Mark some possets as a thank you for his help, she is going to do risotto next week.  She says she's stopping looking for Mr Right, as she only seems to meet strange men.

Macs and Sioned walk to her door, he kisses her on the lips, and walks away.  It's not clear which one of them is more confused!
